Octavia E. Butler was a Science Fiction writer who used her work to speak on the struggles of the African-American people. She helped changed the genre of Science Fiction when she decided to focus on race and Black spiritualism. In 1995, Butler became the first Sci-Fi author to win a MacArthur Foundation "Genius Grant".
