Honing Your BLACK GIRL MAGIC

Hi Beautiful People!

I recently got the amazing chance to sit down and record a podcast episode with a dear friend of mine - Melissa Espinal.

She is an amazing singer, terrific actress (can be seen on my short lived webseries 'Noir Chicks here) and the creator of  'Almost There with M'elle' on SoundCloud.

Listen to the full episode below:

In this episode we discuss honing your Black Girl Magic, and I wanted to delve deeper into that conversation with this post and kinda of give you a visual on how to become a better you this 2017.

1. Make A List of Goals
Make a list of goals that you can achieve for the year and they don't have to be huge or overwhelming. Create a list that you KNOW you can complete. My list is like so:
  • Write more for blog
  • Expand stand-up career
  • Find more acting work
  • Move out of apartment
  • Live a healthier lifestyle
  • Complete one creative project

2. Surround Yourself with Your Passion
If you want to be a teacher, actor, dancer or even a plumber -- hang out with people who work in that career. Go to concerts, plays, open mics, art galleries -- anything!. This is a great way to get inspired and also potentially meet a mentor, which brings us to our next step.

3. Get a Mentor
It's as simple as a Facebook or Instagram message, but find someone that can push you forward, give you some great advice and even steer you in the right direction. I have this problem where I'm too shy to perform or put myself out there, but it's great when you have an mentor or support system that can give you the confidence boost that you need or even help you up when you fall on your feet.

4. Finding Your Calling
There are tons of times where I had no idea what I was doing with my life (I still don't but I at least have an idea). If you're in this place and need help figuring out what your calling is, make three different list and then compare and contrast.

A) List the things you're good at:
- Writing
- Talking
- Acting a fool

B) Next, list the things you love to do:
- Drawing
- Telling stories
- Giving advice
- Making people happy

C) Then, make a list of things you want from life:
- A house
- Wealth
- Success

D) Finally, compare and contrast and find a career:
- Author
- Journalist/Blogger
- Entertainer

If you have any questions or even just want to talk, feel free to email me at heyheychante@gmail.com!

Also, do not forget to follow Almost There With M'elle on SoundCloud and check out ALL of her podcast episodes (INCLUDING OURS TOGETHER)

Lastly, did you think this post was helpful? Will you be making a list? What are your goals for 2017? Comment or email and let me know!

Until next time...
