Pauli Murray - Activist, Priest, Writer
Born: November 20th, 1910
Died: July 1st, 1985


Pauli Murray spent most of her career fighting for race and women's rights and in 1956 she published the book Proud Shoes, which spoke about the struggles of being an African-American woman during the 1930s. In 1977, Murray became the first female African-American ordained priest.

  • She graduated from Hunter College in New York City.
  • She published five books throughout her lifetime.
  • Murray was very close friends with Eleanor Roosevelt.
