Died: May 25th, 1919


Madam C.J. Walker was the first Black self-made millionaire. After suffering from a ailment that caused her hair to fall out, she decided to create a hair product line to help other Black women in 1905.

  • Madam C.J. Walker was born Sarah Breedlove on a cotton plantation in Louisiana.
  • She was orphaned at the age of 7.
  • Walker was also a well-known philanthropist.
