Jack Johnson - Boxer, Activist
Born: March 31st, 1878
Died: June 10th, 1946


Jack Johnson was the first Black man to win a world heavyweight boxing championship. He won the title in 1908.

  • Jack Johnson was born John Arthur Johnson and his boxing nickname was "The Galveston Giant".
  • In 1912, Johnson was convicted of violating the "Mann Act" law for crossing state borders to marry his White girlfriend, but fled to Europe to avoid imprisonment.
