Louis Armstrong is considered one of the most influential entertainers in jazz history, but he was also a prominent figure in African-American history.

In 1936, Louis Armstrong was the first Black musician to write an autobiography entitled Swing That Way, then in 1937 he became the first Black man to host a radio show.
